The guide has all the information expected from a normal city guide (like info about public transport, sights, shopping recommendations etc.) plus the alternative part. I didn't have much use for recommendations about sex, drugs (other than khat), clubs etc., but I enjoyed reading them anyway.The guide was really useful. For example, thanks to this guide, we tried brilliant Rina & Zecharia's restaurant (my wife was really impressed!), managed to buy arak infused with khat, find cheap falafel and many other things.
I couldn't be more satisfied with it :-)

Shimrit has a way of safely guiding us to what should be an excellent time in Tel Aviv. I received a copy of this well written guide from a friend and I can't wait to check out Tel Aviv. I've always thought of this city as just another place in the Middle East that is hot and full of judgemental and dangerous people. Ya, I've been suffering from a bit of prejudice and bigotry... After checking out this guide however I feel like I can meet people on the other side of the world that have many common interests with me and other secular hippie types ;)
Happened to open the book up to the section on Taxi's
The author warns women tourists to be careful of dodgy Taxi drivers who may try to kidnap them. I just spent nearly a half hour on line trying to verify this only to find headlines for Taxi DRIVERS who have been kidnapoed by their patrons. Why would you make a blanket statement like this with no statistical support? Using a Taxi is critical for most every tourist and you have just tossed out an unsubstantiated claim. The rest of the book may be good, but I'm leery now.
I am very sorry that I bought this book. It is pretty useless unless you are young and looking for a cool place to drink. There is not even a single map in the book. How do you write a guide to a city and not include a map? No mention of cultural sites. Museums? They don't seem to exist in Tel Aviv. Be smart, stick to the standard guides of Israel.
Looks like a good book but there are no pictures maps or anything that tell you how to get to the places it mentions. Which is a huge bummer. I can't really explore without knowing where I am going.
well, of not much help if you want to get around and see something in tel aviv; it is what one normally finds in guide books under services plus a little bit of extra....especially for the ones planning to come as as volunteers with pretty much everything leaning very far to the left. No contact missed!
Funny thing, from all the dependancies of western european parties in tel aviv, the one chosen by the author the rosa luxemburg foundation belonging to the extrem left German Linkspartei!
I guess as a volunteer for them You get all these informations for free, for all the rest, help Yourself to a decent guide book...
This is a spritely written very informative in-your-face book (no illustrations) with most practical advice for enjoying Tel Aviv safely.
Sent rapidly. Especially helpful for avoiding pitfalls with taxis, but also lots of good info on where to eat where to shop and where to enjoy.
