I have a Kindle, but prefer real physical copies of books. I had the pleasure of reading this novel in a pre-release form on my computer and will finally have a hardcopy of it to read again. This first novel, by film-maker Nick Richards, is a dystopian view of a future Earth. The main character, Cole, tries to remain hopeful despite having little to look forward too. Richards does a great job of setting an atmosphere for Cole to explore that is at the same time very strange yet believable. Vaguely familiar things and places remind the reader of their own existence and the revelations of where Cole came from and is going should give us pause. I look forward to the author's next effort.Product details

Sunshine Surviving in a dark world of glowing mutants giant worms and psychotic abominations Nicholas P Richards 9780989303606 Books Reviews
When Nick announced that his book was available for , I immediately downloaded it to my iPad.
My intention was to scan through the first pages to get an idea of the book. What happened is that I was so taken in by Nick's style of writing that I became immediately engrossed. I couldn't stop reading! I finished the book in less than two days!
I must admit, I'm usually more drawn to romance novels and how to books. But Sunshine drew me in, made me feel as though I was right there alongside Cole on his journey.
I highly recommend this book! A must read!
Such a roller-coaster of a thrill ride that keeps you gasping for breath with every turning of the page and puts you right in the shoes of our hero. Nick's creativity keeps you guessing and cheering and feeling the pains of Cole, a young man kidnapped years ago from Utopia and brought far down below the surface realms into a dungeon world of monsters, ferocious Tribals, man-made abominations of nature, and glow in the dark mushrooms and creatures.
You don't know what's going to happen but you root and feel the pains and struggles of a boy turning man as he evolves in an uncertain world, and desperately attempts to hang on to his humanity. You don't always know who or what to root for.. you learn as you go, and your opinions change as you discover this world and grow and self-evaluate along with Cole. I could not help but grow and examine my own belief system and support groups in my own life. This book strikes on so many levels. Metaphorically and literally.
"Sunshine" is a quick and fun, yet thoughtful read, even for slow-pokes like myself. Truly a gem that will grow an audience as it lives and I truly hope for more of Nick's work to come! (Feed me, Nick!)
Nick has always been one of my favorite screenwriters, continually producing tremendously creative story-lines, which showcase entertaining characters with tremendous heart and soul, sprinkled with a healthy dose of levity. He never fails to disappoint. If you like this book, be sure to check out his movies, especially "Normal." Also a brilliantly creative fun ride, with a lot more levity and less monsters, but with no shortage of adventure.
I had to buy it! Written by my great nephew, I had no idea if I would like it or not, but it was science fiction so I went for it. It was hard to get into at first, Before long, I was hooked. Had to know what was going to happen. Well written, imaginative, and full of surprises, I was pleased. He CAN write! So, yes, I am waiting for his next book. Nick is very talented, movies and all sorts of things.
